PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced on Nov. 9 by Providence College women's volleyball Head Coach Margot Royer-Johnson that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2017. Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) and Victoria Oliver (Cleveland, Ohio) will compete for the Friars in 2017
"We are so excited to have Allie join our Friar family," said Coach Royer-Johnson. "She is a strong, 'gritty' player both offensively and defensively. Her leadership will help us from the setting position. Her experience and training with Northern Lights will serve her well in the very strong Big East Conference."
Barber is a 5' 11" setter from Woodbury, Minn. Barber collected four varsity letters in volleyball during her time at East Ridge High School. Barber was also a member of the Mizuno Northern Lights club volleyball team from 2013 to 2016. In 292 sets played, Barber record 1020 assists, 696 digs, 813 kills and 136 total blocks for East Ridge High School.
Barber has numerous accolades from her time in high school. She was a member of the 2014-2015 AVCA Phenom List as well as a two time AAU Nation Championship Club All- American Team (2014, 2015). In 2015, Barber was a part of "Top 75 Juniors Breakdown Sports USA." Most recently, Barber was the featured player in Minnesota High School Volleyball Breakdown Sports Guide Book. Barber was also highly involved in her community, volunteering for groups such as Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos Club, Project Unified, Love Your Melon Committee and Student Council.
"Victoria is an athletic, quick middle with a great drive to win," said Coach Royer-Johnson. "She is a great addition to our Friar family. She has a quick arm swing and good lateral movement, both very important at the middle blocker position. We are happy she is part of our future at PC!"
Victoria Oliver is a 5' 11" middle blocker from Cleveland, Ohio. Oliver was a four-year varsity member of the volleyball team at Padua Franciscan High School. Oliver also has been a member of The Academy Volleyball Cleveland (AVC) since 2010. During her sophomore and junior years, Oliver tallied 487 kills and 288 digs. In 2013, Oliver was a member of the Padua Franciscan volleyball team that won the Ohio State Division II Championship. Oliver is a honors student and wishes to work in the medical field in the future.
