Women's Soccer To Play At Cincinnati On Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team will travel to take on Cincinnati at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Friars are 3-0-0, after a 1-0 win against Bryant on Aug. 27. It was Providence's second consecutive shutout on the season. The last time the Friars opened up with a 3-0-0 record was in 2010.

In Thursday's 1-0 win versus Bryant, senior Kathryn Hiller notched the lone goal of the game. She was assisted on the play by junior Hannah Wear (South Salem, N.Y.) and sophomore Juliana Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).

In net for the Friars, junior Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.), who recorded her second shutout on the season and currently boasts a 0.33 goals-against average. This past Monday, Aug. 24, Shea received BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week recognition after posting her first shutout on the season. She made four saves in games versus Marist and Syracuse.

Scouting the Bearcats

Cincinnati opens the 2015 season with a 1-1-1 record after a 2-1 loss versus DePaul (Aug. 21), a 1-0 win versus Vanderbilt (Aug. 23), and a 0-0 draw versus Lipscomb (Aug. 27). Julie Gavorski leads in points with three off one goal and one assist. Jaycie Brown follows Gavorski with two points off one goal.

Last season, the Bearcats finished with an 8-11-1 record (4-4-1 American Athletic Conference. Cincinnati returns two of their top-five scorers from the 2014 season. Katy Couperus recorded 15 points on six goals and three assists, while Danielle Rotheram tallied seven points on two goals and three assists.

Sam Pavlika started the Bearcat's game versus Vanderbilt, recording one save in the 1-0 shutout. Pavlika also started Cincinnati's match versus Lipscomb, recording seven saves for a goal-against average of 0.00. Natalie Smith started Cincinnati's 2-1 loss versus DePaul, registering three saves.
