PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's hockey Head Coach Nate Leaman was named the USCHO.com Coach Of The Year on April 16.

Leaman, who was also named a Spencer Penrose Award finalist, led the Friars the program's first ever NCAA Championship with a thrilling, come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Boston University on Saturday, April 11 at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

It marked Providence's first appearance in the Frozen Four in 30 years (1985) and its fourth all-time Frozen Four appearance. This season also marked Providence's first-ever back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

In the championship game, junior goaltender Jon Gillies made a career-high 49 saves en route to being named the Frozen Four's Most Outstanding Player, while junior forward Brandon Tanev netted the game-winning goal with 6:17 remaining in the third period. Sophomore defenseman Anthony Florentino and junior forward Mark Jankowski joined Gillies on the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team.

Leaman and the Friars captured the College's third NCAA team title overall, joining the women's cross country team, who captured NCAA titles in 1995 and 2013. Providence became the second No. 4 seed to capture the Div. I NCAA Men's Hockey Title.

Providence's 26 wins (26-13-2) marked the most victories since it finished the 1982-83 season with a 33-10-0 mark. The Friars finished the regular-season with a 13-8-1 mark in Hockey East play and tied for second in the league standings, matching their best-ever finish. Providence earned the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East playoffs for the first time, their highest-ever seed in the Hockey East Tournament.
