On Friday, September 7 the Friars will open play versus Northern Kentucky at 4:00 p.m. Northern Kentucky enters their match with Providence College with an unblemished 7-0 record. The Norse have won the Western Carolina Invitational and the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational earlier this season.
On Saturday, September 8 the Friars will play tournament-host Harvard at 1:00 p.m. and Manhattan at 4:00 p.m. Harvard will be playing in its second tournament of the season after traveling to Blacksburg, Va. where it played in the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Invitational. The Manhattan Jaspers have already played in the La Salle Invitational and Tribe Invitational this season. The Friars last played Manhattan in 2010 at home during the Friar Classic, losing 3-1.
The Friars are led by sophomore Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas) who owns 92 kills and a .299 hitting percentage through the Friars first 10 games. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has collected 297 assists thus far during her first year as a Friar and senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) leads the team with 155 digs. Muzzonigro's average of 4.33 digs per set currently ranks third in the America East.
Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
