Friar Volleyball Hit The Road For Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-4) will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to play in the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. This will be the second of four tournaments that the Friars will play in during the course of the regular season.

The Friars will open against co-host Duquesne at 11:00 a.m. and then play Loyola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31. The following day the Friars are slated to play at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. versus Norfolk State and co-host Robert Morris, respectfully. The Friars last played Norfolk State in 2010 during the Norfolk State Tournament and suffered a 3-1 loss.

The Friars played earlier this week, defeating St. Peter's in four sets for their first win of the season on Wednesday, August 29. Sophomore Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) picked up her second double-double of the season collecting 15 kills and 13 digs and freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) notched her first career double-double, breaking the 40 assist mark for the second time this season, leading all players with 44 while garnering 10 digs.

Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
