Providence College Volleyball Opens 2012 Campaign At Hofstra Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College volleyball team will open their season this weekend when the Friars travel to Hempstead, N.Y. to play in the Hofstra Tournament. The Friars will open the tournament playing host Hofstra at 11:00 am and Marist at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 24. The Friars will play Fairleigh Dickinson at 10:00 am and closing against UC Riverside at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 25.
The Friars will play in three more tournaments before playing any games at home this season. The extended stretch on the road is due to the home gym being reconstructed over the past spring and summer.
The Friars will have a young roster this season including five returning sophomores and four freshmen. Co-captains senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) and sophomore Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) will look to lead the Friars in their third season as a member of the America East conference.
The Friars will play their first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus conference foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
