PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Eddy DelSignore, a former men's volleyball player at Boston University, has been named assistant volleyball coach at Providence College. A five-year member of the club team for the Terriers, DelSignore returns to his native Rhode Island for his first season at Providence.
"Eddy is a real plus for our team this year," said head coach Margot Royer-Johnson. "He has a strong background in the game and is knowledgeable and motivating. He is also a skilled player and is able to teach skills well to players."
DelSignore played club men's volleyball at Boston University from 2006-11. He was team captain and club president from 2009-11 and an all-league selection from 2008-11. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in English in 2010, before graduating Summa Cum Laude with a master's in sports psychology in 2011.
A native of Narragansett, R.I., he was a two-time All-State honoree at Bishop Hendricken in Warwick, R.I. He helped Bishop Hendricken to state championships in 2005 and 2006, taking home tournament MVP honors in 2005 and making the All-Tournament team in 2006.
Royer-Johnson begins her 12th season as head coach of the Friars this Friday, August 26, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to participate in the LaSalle Invitational. Over the two-day tournament, Providence will take on Canisius, Morgan State, St. Peter's and the host Explorers. The first match is Friday against Canisus at 2:00 p.m.
