PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College lacrosse Head Coach Chris Burdick announced his team's post-season awards for the 2011 season on Thursday, May 12. Senior co-captain Steve Lydon (Braintree, Mass.) took home the Mark C. Cordon Heart and Soul Award. Fellow senior co-captains Mike Feldberg (Voorhees, N.J.) and Jake Goodelman (Wantagh, N.Y.) received the Steve O'Donnell Coach's Award and Thomas Spignesi/Matt Berk/James Courter Legacy Award, respectively.

In addition, former player Sean Horrigan '91 was awarded the inaugural Go Friars Award, which will be known as the Sean Horrigan Go Friars Award, in recognition of his efforts behind the scenes to help the program with what it needs to be successful. Horrigan recently donated $50,000 in support of a lacrosse scholarship, the first such gift in program history.

Lydon was given the Mark C. Cordon Heart and Soul Award, which is the highest honor given to a lacrosse player at Providence College. The award recognizes the individual who most represents the qualities of hard work and dedication embodied by former player Mark Cordon. The recipient represents the values and integrity of the program and stands up to adversity to continue to move the program toward becoming the most respected in the nation. Lydon was a two-year captain for the Friars, who overcame injuries throughout his career to play in 12 games as a senior. He finished 2011 with nine goals and an assist, scoring a goal in each of the final seven games of his career.

The Thomas Spignesi/Matt Berk/James Courter Legacy Award identifies the individual who most contributed to the legacy of commitment and service to the program's mission. Named after the program's founder, Thomas Spignesi, and later former players Matt Berk and James Courter, the award was given this season to Goodelman, who also was a two-year team captain. After making just six appearances during his first three seasons, Goodelman became the starting goalie this season, earning his first career win against Lafayette, with 16 saves. He followed that up with a career-high 17 saves in the season finale against Rutgers. He earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for both performances.

The Steve O'Donnell Coach's Award is named after the program's all-time winningest coach and recognizes the individual's commitment to bringing the coaching of the program to the team. Feldberg served as a co-captain this season, scoring four goals and notching two assists while seeing action in 14 games. He finished with 31 career points.

In addition, several other awards were announced by Burdick. Freshman Peter Banta (Tampa, Fla.) earned the Academic Achievement Award. Junior Andrew Bromley (Surrey, British Columbia) earned the Bruce Tough As Nails Award, named for former Friar John McCullough. Senior Bertan Unal (Potomac, Md.) received the Campus Pride Award, recognizing his commitment to campus by setting the example of class and consideration for others in the community.

Senior Evan Helda (Charlotte, N.C.), who finished the season with 13 goals, was named the Tim Connelly Unsung Hero. Freshman Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) received the Offensive Award for executing the offensive philosophy. The rookie was third on the team with 19 points. The Mike Chapey Offensive Most Valuable Player went to junior Jake Nolan (Westport, Conn.), who led the squad with 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists). Sophomore Billy Falatko (Silver Spring, Md.) was named the Tim West Defensive Leader for his leadership in executing the defensive philosophy. Junior Mike Noyes (Ocean City, Md.) was named the Brian O'Rorke Defensive Most Valuable Player after causing a team-high 24 turnovers. O'Rorke was a three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Freshman Zachary Rogers (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) received the Jay Sabatoni Hammer Award, given to the player who brings the biggest physical presence to the team. Freshman Andrew Sypek (Hingham, Mass.) was named the Most Improved Player for his progress during the season. Nolan was the only multi-award recipient, as he earned the Kyle Ojakian Playmaker Award for leading the team in assists, as he notched 13 in 12 games (1.01 apg). Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) was named the Outstanding Rookie. He was second on the team in points, with 24 (10 goals, 14 assists).
