PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: The Providence College women's soccer team received the National Soccer Coaches Association of American's (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year by posting a team grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
A total of 261 women's soccer teams throughout the United States have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2008-09 academic year. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
Providence finished the year 8-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the BIG EAST. It was the team's highest number of wins since 2002. The Friars also finished with 11 points in league play, their highest total since the current divisional format was implemented in 2005.
