The Providence College volleyball team will open its 2007 season on Saturday, August 25 at 11:00 am with a home match against Holy Cross. This year's squad is one of the largest Providence has had in a long time. Fourteen players are on this year's roster, led by two seniors and a talented and experienced junior class. PC looks to build on a 2006 campaign that saw the highest win total in six years. With no seniors lost to graduation, the team and staff are confident they are building towards the Providence College volleyball success of the 80's and 90's.

Seniors and three year starters, Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) and Sarah Fleming (St.Paul, Minn.) will anchor the squad. Fleming is the team's front row go-to hitter while Adinolfi is the core of the defense. In addition, juniors Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) and Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will be the stars of the up-tempo offense that is run by junior setter, Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.).

Rounding out the junior class are 2006 co-captain, Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Cailf.) and 2006 libero, Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.). Both juniors were constants on the court in last year's successful season, and both are key to this year's campaign. They are joined by one sophomore and six freshman who will battle for starting spots as they become more experienced in the fast paced level of competition.

The Friars will once again face a national slate of challenging opponents. This year's schedule is comprised of seven tournaments including PC's Fourth Annual Friar Invitational and the National Independent Tournament in Orem, Utah. The home opener will be on August, 25th against Holy Cross. The travel season will begin on Labor Day weekend in Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL.

"The 2007 team is one of the most experienced teams that I have coached. The upperclassmen have gelled very well together over the past few years and our underclassmen bring a lot of size and speed, I expect we will surprise a lot of opponents," Coach Royer said. It will be an exciting season of speed and athleticism. Be sure to check it out.
