PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Consisting of 12 underclassmen, the 2006 Providence College volleyball team shapes up as one of the youngest in the nation. Undoubtedly headed in the right direction, the Friars consist of two juniors, seven sophomores and three freshman. PC also looks to build on a 2005 campaign which saw the team post its highest win total since 2000.

Juniors Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) and Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) will be counted on for leadership on and off the court. Having each put forth impressive freshmen and sophomore seasons, the third-year stand outs are projected to be leaned upon in starting roles this year. In addition, sophomore middle blockers Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) will fuel a fast paced offense.

The super seven sophomores also include Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.), Nonie Ferguson (Davie, Fla.), Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.), Brittany Pratte (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.). The second-year stand outs have combined to form one of the most dominate classes in PC volleyball history.

The Friars once again face a national slate of challenging opponents, made up of 29 regular season contests, including seven tournaments. The Friars open the year in Hartford, Conn., on September 1. PC's home opener is set for Wednesday, September 13 against Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m.

The Third Annual Friar Invitational will be held September 15-16 at PC's Mullaney Gymnasium. The tournament features four teams from four different states and conferences. It kicks off with a banquet hosted by the PC Athletic Department and always proves to be the home team's most exciting competition. The Friars also will travel to North Dakota in November, for the second annual National Independent Volleyball Tournament on November 11-12.

"We are excited about the 2006 season," Coach Royer said. "This year's team has more potential than ever. With no seniors on the squad, we are looking forward to surprising a lot of teams."

It will be a season of growth and development and PC fans should `come on up for the rising'.
