PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team dropped to No. 13 in the USCHO.com/CSTV Poll and to No. 14 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, which were released on Monday, February 6. Last week, the Friars were ranked No. 9 in both polls.

PC registered a 0-1-1 mark last week in two games versus No. 11/13 Vermont at Schneider Arena. The Friars were defeated, 4-1, by the Catamounts on Friday, February 3. PC took a 1-0 lead early in the second period on senior Torry Gajda's team-leading 13th goal of the season. However, the Catamounts responded with three goals in the second period and one in the third en route to the win. The Friars were held to a season low 17 shots in the loss.

The following night, Providence and Vermont skated to a 3-3 tie. The Friars trailed 1-0 midway through the first period, but took a 2-1 lead after the first twenty minutes on goals by freshmen Nick Mazzolini (Anchorage, Alaska) and Kyle Laughlin (Gambrills, Md.). The Catamounts tied the game early in the second period and took a 3-2 lead with 4:39 left in the third period. However, the Friars took advantage of a six-on-three power play to tie the game with 59 seconds remaining as sophomore Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) converted on his career-high 12th goal of the season. In goal, freshman Stephen Ritter (Tenafly, N.J.), who was making his second career start, recorded 19 saves.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, February 10 at Boston College.
