Men's Hockey Ranked In Two National Polls

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team dropped to No. 16 in the USCHO.com/CSTV Poll and remained at No. 14 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, which were released on Monday, February 13.

The Friars registered a 1-1 mark last week. PC suffered an 8-3 loss at No. 3/5 Boston College on Friday, February 10 at Kelley Rink. The Eagles scored two goals late in the first period and added three goals each in the next two periods to cruise to the win. Junior Chase Watson (Media, Pa.) scored two goals for the Friars, while classmate Tony Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.) tallied one goal.

The following night, the Friars rebounded and recorded a 4-1 win over Massachusetts. Freshman Nick Mazzolini (Anchorage, Alaska) and senior Torry Gajda (Westfield, Mass.) each scored to give PC a 2-0 first period lead. After the Minutemen cut the lead in half in the second period, the Friars responded with two goals in the third period to seal the win. Zancanaro recorded his 10th goal of the season, while freshman Kyle Laughlin (Gambrills, Md.) tacked on his fifth goal as the Friars ended a three-game winless streak. Senior James Pemberton (Cumberland, R.I.) and junior Dinos Stamoulis (Carle Place, N.Y.) finished with two assists each. In goal, sophomore Tyler Sims (Fort Worth, Texas) made 26 saves to earn his 15th victory of the season.

The Friars are back in action on Thursday, February 16 when they face Northeastern in Boston, Mass.
