PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior Alex Bury (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored in the 96th minute to lift the Providence College men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST match at Glay Field. With the win, the Friars improved to 9-3 overall, including a 6-2 mark in conference play. The Panthers fell to 4-7-2 and 3-3-1 in the BIG EAST.

The Friars scored the match winner off a corner kick. Junior Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) drove the corner kick into the box, but it was cleared away. Bury, who was at the top of the 18-yard box, ran onto the ball and rifled a low left-footed volley into the right corner of the net to give PC its ninth victory of the season, the most victories since 1998. In addition, PC six BIG EAST triumphs are also the most since 1998.

The Panthers struck first in the 10th minute when sophomore E.J. McCormick tallied his second goal of the season. Freshman Matt Baker found an opening in the box and fired a shot that glanced off the right post, however, the rebound found the right foot of McCormick who put the ball into the open net from seven yards out.

The Panthers went into the interval with a 1-0 lead, but the Friars carried the play in the second half and had numerous opportunities to score the equalizer. The Friars were able to capitalize in the 65th minute as freshman Jonathan Medcalf (Tulsa, Okla.) scored his team leading sixth goal of the season. Freshman Justin Kahle (Oceanport, N.J.) drove a cross into the box for senior Hadrien Toure (Lyon, France) and he played the ball back to Medcalf whose shot from five yards out beat Pitt goalkeeper Andy Jorgensen.

The Friars outshot the Panthers, 25-11, as Jorgensen made six saves. In addition, the Friars held the corner kick advantage, 12-2.

Providence is back in action on Tuesday, October 10 with a non-conference match against Brown University. The match will be played at PC's Glay Field at 3:00 p.m.
