SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by No. 8 Notre Dame Saturday night in South Bend, Ind. With the loss, PC falls to 10-4 overall and 6-3 in the BIG EAST, while Notre Dame improves to 11-3-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
The Fighting Irish scored the lone goal they would need in the 32nd minute as Joseph Lapira's header found the back of the net. ND increased its lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute when Michael Thomas redirected a cross into the right side of the net. The Fighting Irish tacked on another goal in the 90th minute to complete the scoring. Notre Dame outshot Providence, 14-11 as PC goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) finished with four saves. Notre Dame's Chris Cahill also stopped four shots.
Providence is back in action on Wednesday, October 18 with a crucial BIG EAST match at Seton Hall at 1:00 p.m. at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
