Men's Hockey Ranked In Two National Polls

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team climbed two spots to No. 11 in the USCHO.com/CSTV Poll, and one spot to No. 12 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, which were released on Monday, January 23.
The Friars (13-9-1, 10-5-1 Hockey East) are currently in a second-place tie with No. 10/10 New Hampshire and No. 13/14 Boston University in the Hockey East standings. Providence split a pair of games at Maine on January 20-21. PC posted a 4-0 win on Friday night marking the team's first ever shutout win at Alfond Arena. It also marked the team's 13th victory, surpassing last season's win total of 12. Sophomore goalie Tyler Sims (Fort Worth, Texas) made 20 saves and tied a PC single season record with three shutouts. Junior Chase Watson (Media, Pa.) recorded one goal and two assists, while freshman defenseman Cody Wild (North Providence, R.I.) scored the game winner. The following night, the Friars fell, 5-2, to the Black Bears. PC trailed 4-0 after two periods, but third period goals by sophomore Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) and junior Tony Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.) cut the lead to 4-2. However, Maine scored an empty-net goal to seal the win.
The Friars are back in action on January 27 with a home game against No. 10 New Hampshire.
