PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College volleyball freshman libero Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was named the Division I Independent Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week today for her performance this past week.
Little averaged a team-leading 7.35 digs per game and totaled 147 digs in five matches. Her effort against Sacred Heart on Sept. 17th, (season-high 49 digs and five assists) helped the Friars post their first win of the year, 3-2, in the second annual Friar Invitational. Little also posted an impressive figure at Holy Cross on Sept. 14th as she tallied a match-high 33 digs.
"Amanda deserves this honor as she's one of our hardest working student-athletes," said Head Coach Margot Royer. "Her play this weekend was key to our success, and as a freshman, we're looking forward to her continued success and development."
For the season, Little has totaled a team-leading 270 digs to average 5.51 per game. That 5.51 digs per match mark ranks 14th nationally among all Division I volleyball student-athletes. She also has tallied 25 assists and 10 service aces. Providence volleyball (1-12) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 23rd as the Friars travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the Marist Tournament. The Friars will take on Fairleigh Dickinson beginning at 12:00 p.m.
