PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Providence College men's lacrosse player, Brian O'Rorke (Montclair, N.J.) was drafted by the New Jersey Pride in the 13th round (73rd overall) of the 2004 Major League Lacrosse supplemental draft on Friday, January 14 in Philadelphia, Pa. O'Rorke becomes the first lacrosse player to be drafted from Providence.
O'Rorke completed his eligibility with the Providence men's lacrosse team in 2004. He was a dominant force in the Friar defense, and played a key role in guiding the program to four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Final Four appearance, one regular-season MAAC title (2003), one MAAC Championship title (2004) and the team's first-ever trip to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship (2004).
O'Rorke is the most decorated player in Friar lacrosse history. He was a three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-MAAC First-Team selection (2002-2004). In 2001, he burst onto the collegiate scene and was named MAAC Rookie of the Year. He also earned All-New England honors (2004), MAAC All-Tournament Team recognition (2003, 2004) and was chosen to play in the USILA North/South Classic All-Star Game (2004).
O'Rorke played 62 career games as part of the defensive unit at Providence College. He completed his career with 172 groundballs and registered one assist for one career point against Penn State on March 10, 2004.
The New Jersey Pride selected 15 players in the draft on January 14th and include: Brett Hughes (Virginia), Tim DeBlois (Cornell), Drew Casino (Princeton), Mike LaMonica (Maryland), Matt McFarland (UMass), Spencer Wright (Syracuse), Patrick Donahue (Ohio State), Justin Cynar (Cornell), Tom Daniels (Dartmouth), Neal Goldman (Georgetown), Andrew Roth (Cortland State), Mat Trevenen (Princeton), Brian O'Rorke (Providence), Ned Britt (Yale) and Jim Mormile (Brown).
