PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College's Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week for men's lacrosse, for the week ending May 2, 2004. The announcement was released by the league office on Monday, May 3. McMinn earns the honor for the third time in his career and the first time this season.
In two games last week, McMinn recorded 23 saves on 55 shot attempts for a 7.50 goals against average and a .605 save percentage. On April 27, he held 14th-ranked Brown to just six goals in a 6-3 loss. In that game he faced 30 shot attempts - 22 of which were on goal - and made 16 saves. On May 1, McMinn posted seven saves in a 14-9 victory over MAAC foe Manhattan. He faced 25 shots in the game and helped PC secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship Tournament. McMinn's overall record stands a 6-5 overall, and he finished league play with a 5-1 mark. He currently leads the MAAC and ranks sixth nationally among all NCAA Division I goalkeepers with a 7.32 goals against average, according to the most recent NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Statistics released on May 3.
Providence has a current record of 7-7 overall and finished in a tie for second in the MAAC with a 6-2 conference mark. The Friars will be making their fourth-consecutive trip to the MAAC Tournament under sixth-year Head Coach Chris Burdick.
