Friar Volleyball Defeated By UMBC, 3-1

BALTIMORE, Md. - Providence College was defeated, 3-1 (27-30, 30-25, 30-23, 30-17), by Maryland-Baltimore County in the nightcap of day one volleyball action at the 2003 UMBC Retriever Invitational on Friday, September 12.

Providence (0-7) was led by junior Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) and sophomore Katie Fleming. Cadres recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs and a .323 hitting percentage, while Fleming notched same with 16 kills and 14 digs and hit for a .282 percentage.

UMBC (4-4) was led by Jocelyn Teoh, who recorded 23 kills on 50 total attacks for a .320 hitting percentage.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, September 13 when they take on Georgia State at 12:30 p.m and Rider at 5:00 p.m. in day two action of the Retriever Invitational.
