HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Providence College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against Hofstra in the Quinnipiac Classic on Friday, September 6 at Hamden, Conn.
Hofstra junior Elyse Bizzozzaro got the Pride on the scoreboard early with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute. The Friars tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by sophomore Maura Robertson (Wellesley. Mass.) in the 44th minute with an assist from sophomore Veronica Bakke (Alesund, Norway). It was Bakke's first point of the season and Robertson's third goal, giving her seven points on the year.
Friar junior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made eight saves, while the Pride goalkeeper Rebecca Wachsberger made three saves. Hofstra outshot Providence, 22-5.
With the tie, Providence improved to 1-1-2 overall, while Hofstra moved to 2-0-1 overall.
Providence College returns to action on Friday, September 13 against the University of Maine at 4:00 p.m. at Providence, R.I.
