Raleigh Relays at NC State, Raleigh, N.C. - March 30, 2002
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Providence College women's track team competed at the Raleigh Relays at NC State in Raleigh, N.C. on March 30.
Junior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) was impressive for the Friars. She placed third in the javelin throw with a toss of 46.78 meters and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
PC's 4 x 1,500 meter relay team of junior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland), junior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), freshman Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and freshman Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) placed second in a time of 18:14.33.
In the 5,000 meters, senior Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the Friars as she placed 15th (17:12.85). Also in the 5,000, sophomore Emily Tallen (Kingston, Ontario) was 28th (17:36.32) and Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) finished 32nd (17:44.74). All three women qualified for the BIG EAST Championship.
