STORRS, Conn. -- The Providence College women's track team scored 76 points and finished third of five teams at the University of Connecticut Invitational at Storrs, Conn., on Friday, April 5.
The Friars were led by junior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), senior Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.), freshman Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland), junior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) and junior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) who each earned a first-place finish.
Cullen and Freeburg each qualified for the NCAA Championships. Cullen ran an impressive time of 16:46.81 in the 5,000 meters. Freeburg recorded a personal-best throw of 48.53 meters in the javelin.
Cappello and McGettigan each qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with their victories. Cappello won the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:37.94 and McGettigan captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:46.85.
O'Shea won the 800 meters in a time of 2:16.93.
