NCAA Releases Final Division I Men's Lacrosse Statistics

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the 2001 Men's Lacrosse NCAA Division I Final Statistics on Wednesday, June 13.

In the 2001 Individual Statistics, junior Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) ranks third in the nation with 2.60 assists per game. Tim Pearson of Army ranks first in the nation with 2.79 assists per game (39 assists, 14 games), and Conor Gill of Virginia ranks second with 2.62 assists per game (34 assists, 13 games). Ojakian led the Friars and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 39 assists in 15 games. Ojakian also led the team in scoring with 47 points (eight goals, 39 assists) and became PC's first player to be selected to the All-MAAC First Team.

Junior goaltender John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) ranks 19th among all Division I goaltenders with a .598 save percentage, and 20th with a 9.43 goals against average. Farley played 872 minutes for the Friars this season, posting a 7-8 overall record, and a 5-4 record in MAAC action. He made 204 saves and allowed 137 goals in 16 games. He was named MAAC Goaltender of the Week twice during the regular season schedule.

In the 2001 Final Team Statistics, Providence ranks 14th in man-down defense, and 18th in man-up offense. The Friars scored 30 goals in 91 man-advantage opportunities for a .330 penalty conversion percentage. In man-down situations, the team stopped 71 of their opponents scoring opportunities for a .763 penalty killing percentage. The team also ranks 28th nationally in scoring defense. The Friars allowed just 160 goals in 16 games, for an impressive 10.00 team goals against average.
