PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior, Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) has had a significant impact on the Providence College lacrosse team this season. He has played in eight games this year for the Friar lacrosse program, after transferring from Dean College where he played for two seasons.
His presence has been felt on the field thus far, leading the team in scoring (29 points) and assists (24). He also has tallied five goals. Ojakian ranks second in the conference in scoring, and is tied for first in assists, averaging 3.00 per game.
In his two seasons at Dean College, Ojakian established a new record for all-time assists in a single season with 55, and holds the career-assist record with 85.
Ojakian is a 1998 graduate of Cheshire High School and is the son of Jacki and Mark Ojakian.
Providence currently holds a record of 3-5 overall and 2-2 in MAAC action. The Friars have won two straight games and will resume action at home, on Glay Field, with games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, the Friars take on Virginia Military Institute at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Providence will face St. Joseph's in MAAC play. Sunday's game with St. Joseph was originally scheduled for March 17th, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
