The 2000 volleyball team looks to pick up where they left off last season as nine letterwinners return from last year's squad that finished third in the BIG EAST and advanced to the league tournament for the first time since 1994.

The Friars will be led by a trio of seniors: Deb Bihday, Heidi Filippi and Samanthaa Lennon.

Bihday has become the ultimate utility player for the program. She finished last season second on team in service aces with 41 and posted season-highs of 12 kills and 23 digs at Brown.

A vocal leader on the court, Filippi will look to cap off her collegiate career on a high note. The 5-9 outside hitter was third on the team in kills and digs, averaging 2.85 kills and 3.15 digs per game last season.

Lennon will be an offensive threat for PC as the returning leading blocker on the squad (0.48 blocks per game). She also averaged 2.22 kills per game for the Friars.

Junior Sarah Katinger returns to the hardwood this season after proving that she did not have the sophomore jinx last year. The 5-10 outside hitter was named to the Second Team All-BIG EAST and led her team in kills (4.9 per game) and second in digs (3.4 per game). Katinger also put her mark in the PC record books after setting the single season record for kills with 482.

Fellow junior Annie Cella also enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign. Cella led the Friars in digs with 3.83 digs per game while finishing second in kills with 3.87 per game.

PC will also get help this season from a quartet of sophomores: Sandy Fanning, Susan Fanning and Daniella Miele.

Sandy Fanning saw action in 90 games in her rookie campaign, contributing 21 service aces and 1.91 digs per game.

Her twin sister, Susan, appeared in just nine games for the Friars, but made the most of her time, recording 34 assists and two kills. She will look to become the starting setter this season following the graduation of Colleen Lee.

Miele will also look to break into the starting lineup, after registering two assists, two digs and two blocks in 13 games last season for PC.

PC will also add freshmen Brigid Collins and Kathleen Martucci to their roster for the 2000-01 season.

The Friars will open the season with several invitationals including those at Buffalo, Liberty, Depaul and Harvard. BIG EAST action opens September 30 when PC hosts Pittsburgh at Alumni Hall.
