Volleyball Drops Two at South Florida Invitational

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence College Volleyball squad fell to Tennessee Tech, 3-1 and Xavier University, 3-2 in the first day of the South Florida Invitational

In the first match of the afternoon, the Friars took Tennessee Tech to four games, but lost 3-1. Scores were 15-12, 13-15, 15-11, 15-11. Leading the Friars were freshmen Annie Cella and Sarah Katinger along with sophomore Heidi Filippi who each recorded 11 kills each. Junior co-captain Colleen Lee recorded 35 assists and 11 digs.

Tennesee Tech recorded 68 kills while the Friars managed 54.

In the second match of the day, the Friars fell to Xavier by scores of 15-10, 13-15, 15-13, 13-15 and 16-18. Filippi recorded a career high 25 kills on 80 attempts. Katinger tallied 14 kills and a team high 18 digs. Junior Brooke Chupaila recorded four blocks.

Providence plays in the consolation round on Saturday, September 5.
