Corey Wright Jr., will begin his second season as an assistant coach and his third season with the Friar men’s basketball program.

Wright joined English’s staff in May of 2023 as a graduate assistant.  In this role he assisted with scouting, video, player development, recruiting, and practice and game preparations.

Prior to joining the Friars, Wright worked extensively in youth basketball, teaching skills and development.  While in this role he developed strong relationships throughout the country, giving him the ability to recruit nationwide.  He spent five years working as a basketball trainer, high school coach, middle school coach, and mentor in the New England area.

Wright has been familiar with Friartown since his childhood.  Wright’s father, Corey Wright Sr., played for three years for the Friars before graduating in 1999.  Wright Sr., recorded 290 assists in his career and helped the Friars advance to the Elite Eight in 1997.

Wright, a New York City native, played at Long Island University and Lander University during his collegiate career. During his time at Lander, he earned all-conference honors and ranked second in the country for assists in his junior and senior year.

After his college career, Wright played for the Providence Sky Chiefs of the ABA. While with the Sky Chiefs he averaged double figures in scoring and helped the team win the East Regional ABA Championship in 2015.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College in 2020.
