More than 1,000 fans greeted the new coach at Alumni Hall.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College President Fr. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P., and Athletics Director Steve Napolillo addressed a crowd of more than 1,000 people as they joined together to introduce Bryan Hodgson as the new head men's basketball coach. Hodgson became the 17th coach of the men's basketball program. The press conference, which was streamed on YouTube and open to the public, was held on March 24 at Alumni Hall's Mullaney Gym.

The campus community came out in full force to welcome the new Friar coach. Also in attendance was the Providence Mayor Brett Smiley.

Fr. Sicard opened the press conference with some brief remarks and then he introduced Steve Napolillo.

"On behalf of the Dominican Friars and the entire Friar Family we couldn't be more happy that you are here with us today," Fr. Sicard said. "Not only is he a great coach, he is a great fit for us culturally. He is going to fit in so well with the Friar family."

"Providence wants a winner and deserves a winner, and the gentleman on this stage is a winner. " Napolillo said. "He's going to win on the court. He's going to win in the classroom. He's going to win in the community. And he's going to win as a Friar."

"I didn't just come here to be a part of Providence basketball, I can here to elevate it and build something that reflects this city and community," said Hodgson. "We are going to compete at the highest-level year in and year out in the best conference in the county. We are going to do it the right way with discipline, toughness, and unity, and do it together."

At the conclusion of the press conference, Coach Hodgson spent time with the large contingent of media on hand for the event. To watch the archived press conference, click here
