Allison Burch / Barker - FIB - Black history is who I am, it is my foundation so it’s important to honor those who paved the way before me. It’s a history that for me is celebrated everyday not just one month of the year.
Arianna Reid - FIB - Because we are celebrating a community that has and continues to experience oppression yet has chosen to rise above it and seems to create equal opportunities for all.
Brianna Harper - FIB - We must recognize how far black people have come within American history and continue to fight against racism and discrimination. Black history acknowledges injustices within society but also recognizes everything they have contributed to society and uplifts the power of black people.
Keasal Broome - FIB - It’s apart of American History and should be celebrated as such.
Chaka Daley - FIB - Black History is "Everyone's History"
Elysia Cunnigan - FIB - the month celebrates and highlights the accomplishments of black people in society. It is beautiful seeing the many great historic things Blacks did and homage being paid to them.
Janai Crooms - FIB - People all over the world need to be educated about black culture. I feel a lot of people know the basis but not all the details and important ones.
Jenae Alderson.- FIB - It is always great to recognize history that is not necessarily a focus in the everyday school system: Black history, Asian history, etc. It is also great to see just how much Black history has contributed to our daily lives. Sometimes in ways, you don't always realize.
Kevin Hood - FIB - Black history in important because black history is American history.
Kira Amos - FIB - it shows how far we have come from having automatic disadvantages in life based on the color of our skin.
Britt King - FIB - It's an opportunity for everyone to reflect and honor accomplishments in the black community.
Maryanne Boyle - FIB - t is essential to knowing the background of our country.
Niah Tucker - FIB - we get to highlight black culture and achievements in ways that society doesn’t normally do outside of the month.
Paulo Lima - FIB - It is important to remember those that have fought for the rights that black community has now. At the same time it helps us remember how far we have come and what we have to improve still
Rimi Olatunji - FIB - It’s the backbone of this country. Black history is American history.
Sally Alrutz - FIB - it is important to recognize, celebrate and honor the past to better understand its impact on society today
Shaliyah Roden - FIB - It is nice to be educated and know where we come from. Although others have impacted the way we are seen in society I believe it is important for others to understand that we are the way we are for a reason. Not just the stereotypes that are placed on us, but to show how the color of your skin can effect how you are viewed.
We get to honor, celebrate, and uplift Black people, achievements, and culture. Being a mom it’s so important for me to show my kids how far we’ve come, but there is still so much to be done. Show them they are capable of continued progress when their actions are guided by their character and love.
It’s important for us to highlight the significance and contributions of the black diaspora in U.S history as well as provide visibility to the systemic issues that still affect them today.
