Women’s Soccer Set To Visit Butler

The Friars will continue BIG EAST play at Butler on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to visit the Butler University Bulldogs (3-1-5) on Saturday, Sept. 27. The match will kick off at 4:00 p.m. in Indianapolis, Ind. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Providence College women's soccer team recently finished in a draw at St. John's, 1-1, and moved to a 3-2-1 overall record with a 0-0-1 mark in BIG EAST play. This season, the Friars have earned victories over Army (1-0), Northeastern (2-1), and Sacred Heart (1-0). The Friars hold a 2-1-2 mark at home and are 1-1-1 on the road. Providence's home match versus Rutgers University, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, was postponed due to inclement weather.

Senior Thaea Mouratidis (Toronto, Ont.) leads the Friars' offense this season with three points on one goal and one assist. Six players have scored a goal for the Friars this season. Lily Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.), Courtnee Pickles (Methuen, Mass.) and Isabella Kloock-Jensen (Aabenraa, Denmark) have each registered game-winning goals for Providence. Amaya Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) and Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) and Mouratidis also netted goals. Colleen Casey (Franklin, Mass.), Alanna Coffie (Warwick, Mass), Mouratidis and Emma Gregorski (South Glastonbury, Conn.) have each logged an assist for Providence. Graduate student goalkeeper Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) has anchored Friars in net, playing every minute (630:00) across the seven games. Thallman has registered a .679 save percentage on 19 saves and has recorded two shutout wins. Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) and McBride have led the Friars' defense, logging 625 and 601 minutes, respectively.
 
STEPHANIE SCHOELEY AND ISABELLA KLOOCK-JENSEN EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Stephanie Schoeley and Isabella Kloock-Jensen earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Sept. 8. Schoeley was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore led the Friar defense, logging 90 minutes of action and helped limit Sacred Heart to only one shot in Providence's 1-0 win on Sept. 3. Kloock-Jensen was named to the weekly Honor Roll after she was credited with the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. It also marked her first-career goal with the Friars.

ELLA MCBRIDE AND COURTNEE PICKLES EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Ella McBride and Courtnee Pickles earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Aug. 25. McBride was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The senior anchored the Friars' defense, logging 90 minutes of action and helped limit Northeastern to only two shots on goal in the match. Pickles was named to the weekly Honor Roll after she was credited with the game-winning goal in the 67th minute. It also marked her first-career goal with the Friars.
 
ELLIE THALLMAN AND LILY GIBBS EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Ellie Thallman and Lily Gibbs earned BIG EAST Weekly honors on Monday, Aug. 18. Thallman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week following her clean sheet performance in the team's in versus Army. Gibbs was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after she scored her first career goal in the Friars' win over Army.
 
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BUTLER... The Friars hold a 4-10-2 all-time record against the Bulldogs. In the last meeting between the two teams, Providence defeated Butler, 1-0, on Sept. 29 last season in Providence, R.I.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS... Butler enters Saturday's match with a 3-1-5 record and a 0-0-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs hold a 2-0-2 record at home this season with wins over Illinois State, 5-1, and IU Indy, 2-0.
 
Senior Talia Sommer leads Butler's offense in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Junior Norah Jacomen ranks second on the team in points with nine on three goals and three assists. Leila Lister and Alyssa Carlson have each registered two goals for the Bulldogs. Seven players have recorded one or more assists this season for Butler. Freshman goalkeeper Addison Ash has anchored the Bulldogs in net this season, starting in all nine games. Ash has posted a .727 save percentage with 24 saves. Freshman defender Kate Malin was previously named BIG EAST Defender of the Week on Aug. 18.
 
ELLA MCBRIDE NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Ella McBride was named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2025 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors on Aug. 12. McBride, who earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors as a junior in 2024, started in 12 games for the Friars. She finished tied for second on the team in points (eight) on three goals and two assists.
 
RETURNERS... The Friars return 18 players from last year's roster including three multi-goal scorers.
 
Senior defender/midfielder, Ella McBride (Peterborough, Ont.) enters her fourth season with the Friars. The four year starter finished tied for second on the team in scoring with a career-high eight points on five goals and two assists last season. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team at the conclusion of the season. McBride missed six games in 2024 season to compete on the Canadian National Team in the Under-20 FIFA World Cup. McBride earned BIG EAST Defender of the Week honors on Aug. 25 this season.
 
Graduate student goalkeeper Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) returns for her second season with the Friars. Thallman joined Providence last year as a transfer from Michigan State. Thallman was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 30 last season and Aug. 18 this season.


Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) returns for her second season with the Friars. In her freshman season Schoeley scored one goal for the Friars. This past summer, Schoeley helped lead Team Canada to a 2025 CONCACAF U20 Women's Championship victory. Schoeley earned BIG EAST Defender of the Week honors on Sept. 8 this season.
 
NEWCOMERS… Providence welcomes 11 student-athletes to the program this season, featuring two transfers and nine freshmen. The transfers include junior midfielder Meg Roden (Belconnen, Australia) from High Point and redshirt freshman Caitlin Driscoll (Sherborn, Mass.) from Syracuse.
 
The incoming freshman class includes Leila Anazagasty-Pursoo (Bayshore, N.Y.), Mara Batchen (Snyder, N.Y.), Gia D'Alessio (East Hanover, N.J.), Emma Gregorski (South Glastonbury, Conn.), Olivia Jacobs (Villanova, Pa.), Courtnee Pickles (Methuen Mass.), Sophie Tonino (Howell, N.J.) and Eden Wheeler (Norwell, Mass.).
 
UP NEXT... The Friars will host Connecticut (3-1-4) in their BIG EAST home opener on Wednesday, Oct. 1, in Providence, R.I. The game will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Providence holds a 4-31-3 all-time record against the Huskies. In the last meeting between the two teams, Providence was defeated by Connecticut, 1-0, on Oct. 3, last season in Storrs, Conn.
