PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to New Hampshire, 6-1, in a non-conference match on Sunday, Sept. 29 in Durham, N.H. The Wildcats scored two minutes into the game and mounted a 4-0 lead by halftime. Providence's lone goal in the contest came with 2:33 remaining in regulation. Providence dropped to 5-5 on the season, while New Hampshire improved to 4-6.
GAME FLOW:
• The Wildcats got on the board just 2:06 into the game as Nicole Poulakis scored during a penalty corner.
• UNH buried three goals in the second quarter. The first two came during a span of 1:10 as Calcari Brecken and Kathelijne Knuttel scored at 16:17 and 17:27.
• Tasmin Cookman scored UNH's third goal of the quarter and fourth of the game with no time left on the clock.
• New Hampshire outshot Providence 7-2 in the third quarter.
• Knuttel added two more goals at 34:29 and 47:53 to give the Wildcats a 6-0 edge.
• Providence finally got on the board with a goal from
Ally DeCoste at 57:27, which was assisted by
Taylor Ligozio.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• DeCoste scored her team-best fifth goal of the season.
• Ligozio notched her third assist of the year.
• UNH held a 12-10 advantage in shots during the game, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.
• Both teams were awarded five penalty corners during the match. Four of the Friars' five corners came during the fourth quarter.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 against No. 18 Old Dominion. The game will be played in Norfolk, Va. and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Providence will close the weekend at Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 6. The match is set to begin at Noon.
