NORFOLK, VA. – The Providence College field hockey team suffered an 8-1 loss against Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 4 in Norfolk, Va. The Monarchs, who fell out of the NFHCA National Coaches' Poll at the beginning of the week, improved to 5-5 (2-1 BIG EAST). Providence dropped to 5-6 overall (1-2 BIG EAST).
GAME FLOW:
• The Friars took a 1-0 lead 5:02 into the game as
Carly van Benten tallied a goal on a 2-v-1 breakaway.
Hannah McKenney was credited with the assist as she fed Van Benten in the center of the circle.
• ODU tied the score during a penalty corner opportunity with 6:07 remaining on the clock in the first quarter. Tess Jedeloo recorded the goal on a direct shot from the top of the circle.
• Jedeloo's goal was the first of eight straight scored by ODU.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Van Benten's goal marked the first of her career with the Friars.
• McKenney's assist marked the first of her career.

Avery Callison appeared in her first career game for Providence in the cage. She relieved
Asia Porter at the beginning of the fourth quarter and played 15 minutes. She made one save and did not allow a goal.
• Porter finished the day with seven saves.
