EASTON, PA. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to Lafayette, 2-1, on Sunday, Oct. 6 in Easton, Pa. The Friars dropped to 5-7 on the season, while the Leopards improved to 7-4.
GAME FLOW:
• Lafayette got on the board 6:11 into the match with a goal from Alex Darrah.
•
Asia Porter came up with a big save on a penalty shot 7:36 into the game as she dove to her right to deny Lena Thedrian.
• The Leopards went ahead 2-0 as Lineke Spaans converted from the top of the circle after a Providence turnover. Lafayette maintained its 2-0 advantage into the half.
• The Friars made it a one-goal game at 41:05 as
Carly van Benten carried the ball through the top of the circle to the right and fired a shot into the cage.
• The Friars pulled their goalkeeper in favor of the extra attacker with a few minutes left in regulation, but were unable to score the equalizer.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Van Benten notched her second goal of the season and second of her career. She scored her first collegiate goal against ODU on Friday, Oct. 4.
• Porter finished the game with a season-high 10 saves.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Providence College field hockey team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 11 against BIG EAST foe Temple. The game will be played at Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pa. and is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
