PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team needed a shootout to defeat non-conference foe Holy Cross on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. After regulation ended in a 3-3 tie, the two teams played a pair of scoreless overtime periods before senior
Cami Crook scored the deciding goal in the seventh-round of the shootout to give the Friars a 4-3 victory. Providence improved to 5-3 on the season, while the Crusaders dropped to 3-4 overall.
GAME FLOW:
• The first quarter was scoreless (0-0). Neither team was credited with a shot attempt, and Holy Cross recorded the only penalty corner of the opening 15 minutes.
• Molly Vinton gave Holy Cross a 1-0 lead at 25:48, unassisted.

Florencia Talarico drew the Friars' first penalty corner of the game with 12-seconds left in the second quarter.
Macie Pennisi cashed for her third goal of season with five-seconds remaining on the clock. She was assisted by
Bo Martina and
Marley Mailloux.
• Holy Cross regained the lead as Sarah Potter deflected a feed from Marissa MacLean at 37:40.
• Pennisi leveled the game, 2-2, with a penalty corner goal at 40:36 from Martina and
Taylor Ligozio. The Friars were a player down at the time of the goal due to a green card.
• The game was tied 2-2 heading into the fourth quarter.
• Maguire Sturgis scored on a back-handed effort to give Holy Cross a 3-2 lead at 56:31.
• The Friars pulled
Asia Porter from the cage in favor of the extra attacker and the moved paid off as Providence was able to tie the game 42-seconds later.

Hannah McKenney scored the equalizer at 57:13. She collected a ball off the goalkeeper's pads from an initial shot taken by
Celia Preveza.
• Regulation ended in a 3-3 tie and the match went to overtime.
• Both overtimes were scoreless and the match went to a shootout.
• The initial round of the shootout ended with each team converting two of their five attempts.
• In the second round, the first two shoot-out participants for each team were unsuccessful with their attempts.
• Crook stepped up for the Friars and converted her opportunity in the seventh round, which proved to be the game winner.

Asia Porter denied Holy Cross' final attempt and gave the Friars the victory.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Pennisi recorded the first multi-goal game of her career with two penalty corner goals.
• McKenney scored her first goal of the season and second of her career.
• Ligozio has recorded an assist in each of the Friars' last two matches, marking the first points of her collegiate career.
• It marked the first shoot-out victory for Providence since the 2022 campaign, when it defeated Bucknell 2-1 (2OT, SO) in Providence, R.I.
• Porter finished the day with three saves, while Holy Cross' Mia McCloskey registered six saves in goal.
• Prior to the match, the program honored its six seniors and five graduate students. The honorees included Porter,
Bella DelNegro, Crook, McKenney,
Celia Preveza, Ligozio,
Ally DeCoste,
Ally Kennedy and
Caroline Guden.
