PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Alden Invitational at Brown University in Providence on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The men's team was paced by freshman Tom Breen (Providence, R.I.) who won the 500 meters in a time of 1:05.19.
In addition to Breen, the Friar men's squad also got strong performances from sophomore
Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman
Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.). Bartlett finished second in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:29.15. LoCicero was second in the mile in a time of 4:16.58.
The women's team had three runners earn second-place finishes. Sophomore
Polly Bogdan (Rochester, N.Y.) placed second in the 500 in a time of 1:18.10. Freshman
Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) was second in the 300 (40.41). Higgins time of 40.41 established a school record in the 300 meters. The other Friar to finish second was sophomore
Shea Podbelski (Norton, Mass.), who ran a personal best time of 3:02.29 in the 1,000 meters.
Freshman Kiera Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.Y.) and senior
Claire Kelly (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) also ran well for the Friars. Kiera Kelly placed third (40.64) in the 300 and
Claire Kelly was third in the 1,000 meters (3:03.19).
The Friars return to action on Jan. 12 at the UMass Amherst Flagship Invitational in Boston, Mass.
