SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.– The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Seton Hall, 3-0, in BIG EAST action on Saturday, Nov. 9 in South Orange, N.J. The Friars dropped to 7-18 overall (0-14 BIG EAST), while Seton Hall improved to 11-14 (5-9) BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall earned a 25-20 victory in the first set.
- Providence took an early 7-3 lead.
- Seton Hall went on a 9-3 run to take a 12-10 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The two teams exchanged points until reaching a tie (17-17).
- The Pirates went on a 3-0 rally to take a 20-17 lead.
- Seton Hall maintained its late lead and won the set, 25-20.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall won the second set, 25-21.
- Providence got out to a 5-1 advantage, forcing Seton Hall to use a timeout.
- The Friars extended their lead (10-5).
- Providence maintained its lead throughout the set (19-14).
- Seton Hall fought back and took a 20-19 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Pirates won the set 25-21.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall took the third set 25-18 and won the match 3-0.
- Seton Hall jumped out to a 6-2 lead, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
- The Pirates extended their lead (13-7).
- Providence fought back and cut Seton Hall's lead to 14-12.
- Seton Hall responded with a 5-2 run to take a 19-14 lead.
- The Pirates maintained their lead and won the set 25-18.
MATCH NOTES:
Sophia Adkins recorded a team-high 11 kills.
Macy Taylor tallied 10 kills and five digs.
Jiji Lykins recorded 16 digs.
Providence recorded 37 kills, 52 digs, seven blocks and one ace.
