PROVIDENCE, R.I– The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Xavier, 3-1, in BIG EAST action on Friday, Nov. 15 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 7-19 overall (0-15 BIG EAST), while Xavier improved to 10-15 (8-7) BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier earned a 25-15 victory in the first set.
- Xavier got out to a 10-3 advantage, forcing Providence to use a timeout.
- Sophia Adkins recorded a kill to bring the score to 13-7.
- The Musketeers extended their lead (19-10).
- Xavier maintained its lead throughout the set and won 25-15.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the second set, 25-20.
- The two teams reached a 3-3 tie early in the set.
- Providence went on a 7-3 run to take an 10-6 lead.
- The Friars maintained their lead (14-8), forcing Xavier to call a timeout.
- Xavier fought back and narrowed the Friars lead to 19-15.
- Providence held its lead and won the set 25-20.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier took the third set 25-20.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 10-10 tie.
- Xavier went on a 3-0 run to take a 13-10 lead, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
- The Musketeers extended their lead (21-15).
- Providence fought back to narrow Xavier's lead to 21-19.
- Xavier won the set 25-20.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier took the fourth set 27-25 and won the match 3-1.
- The teams exchanged kills to reach a 3-3 tie.
- The Friars went on an 8-4 run to take an 11-7 advantage.
- Xavier fought back and tied the set 12-12, forcing Providence to use a timeout.
- The Musketeers took a 19-16 lead.
- Providence went on a 6-1 rally to take the lead (22-20).
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 25-25 tie.
- Xavier won the set 27-25.
MATCH NOTES:
Sophia Adkins recorded a team-high 20 kills.
Macy Taylor tallied 16 digs and three aces.
Jiji Lykins led the Friars defense with 20 digs.
Providence recorded 49 kills, 71 digs, three blocks and six ace.
