PROVIDENCE, R.I– The Providence College volleyball team defeated DePaul, 3-1, in their final home match of the season. The Friars improved to 8-19 overall (1-15 BIG EAST), while DePaul dropped to 18-10 (10-6) BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-23 victory in the first set.
· The two teams reach a 10-10 tie to begin the set.
· DePaul went on a 6-3 run to take a 16-13 advantage.
· Providence responded and took a 20-18 lead.
· The Blue Demons went on a 4-0 run to take a 22-20 lead.
· Providence came back and won the set 25-23.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: DePaul won the second set, 25-21.
· DePaul got out to a 7-1 advantage to begin the set.
· Providence fought back and tied the set 10-10.
· The Friars went on a 7-3 run to take a 17-13 advantage.
· The Blue Demons responded with a 10-2 rally to take a 23-19 lead.
· DePaul held its late lead and won the set 25-21.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the third set 25-21.
· The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 5-5 tie.
· The teams remained tied at 12-12.
· DePaul took a 14-12 lead, forcing Providence to use a timeout.
· The Friars and Blue Demons exchanged kills to reach 17-17.
· Providence went on an 8-4 run to finish the set (25-21).
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the fourth set 30-28 and won the match 3-1.
· The two teams exchanged kills to reach a 5-5 tie.
· DePaul took an 11-8 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
· The Blue Demons extended their lead (18-11).
· Providence went on an 11-3 run take a 22-21 lead.
· The two teams reached a tie score of 24-24.
· Providence won the match 30-28.
MATCH NOTES:
Shaliyah Rhoden matched her career-high in kills, with 23. Additionally, it marked the fifth game of her career with 20-or-more kills.
Sophia Adkins and
Megan Weldon each added double-digit kills in the win.
Adkins tallied16 kills and added eight digs and one ace. Weldon recorded 10 kills and added two digs and two block assists.
Niah Tucker recorded a team-best hitting percentage of .375. She registered seven kills on 16 total attacks, committing just one attacking error in the match.
Jiji Lykins and
Miller McDonald led the Friars defense with 17 digs each.
Providence recorded 65 kills, 77 digs, seven blocks and five ace.
The Friars earned their first BIG EAST victory of the season. In the first match-up of the year between Providence and DePaul, the Blue Demons defeated the Friars in straight sets on Oct. 25 in Chicago, Ill.
