VILLANOVA, PA.– The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Villanova, 3-0, in BIG EAST action on Friday, Nov. 22 in Villanova, Pa. The Friars dropped to 8-20 overall (1-16 BIG EAST), while Villanova improved to 16-12 (9-8) BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova earned a 25-15 victory in the first set.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 4-4 tie.
- Villanova went on 11-2 run to take a 15-6 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Wildcats maintained their lead (20-11).
- Providence fought back and cut Villanova's lead to 20-15.
- Villanova took set one 25-15.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova won the second set, 25-15.
- Villanova got out to a 5-2 advantage.
- Providence came back and tied the set, 9-9.
- The Wildcats went on a 6-2 rally to take a 15-11 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- Villanova extended its lead to 22-14.
- The Wildcats maintained their lead and won 25-15.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova took the third set, 25-11, and the match 3-0.
- Villanova jumped out to an 8-0 advantage.
- Providence narrowed the Wildcats lead to 8-4.
- Villanova responded and extended their lead to 20-7.
- The Wildcats maintained their lead throughout the set and won 25-11.
MATCH NOTES:
Kayla Grant led the Friars' offense with eight kills.
Macy Taylor tallied a team-high eight digs.
Sophia Adkins and
Shaliyah Rhoden each recorded five kills.
Providence recorded 25 kills, 25 digs, three blocks and one ace.
