WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Georgetown, 3-0, in BIG EAST action on Friday, Nov. 8 in Washington, D.C. The Friars dropped to 7-17 overall (0-13 BIG EAST), while Georgetown improved to 10-15 (3-10) BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown earned a 25-22 victory in the first set.
- The two teams played evenly to reach a 9-9 tie.
- Georgetown went on a 7-3 run to take a 16-12 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Hoyas extended their lead to 21-13.
- Providence chipped away to narrow the Hoyas lead to 23-20.
- Georgetown won the set 25-22.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown won the second set, 25-22.
- Providence got out to a 5-3 lead.
- Georgetown went on an 8-3 rally to take an 11-8 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
- The Friars chipped away to bring the score within one point (19-18), forcing Georgetown to call a timeout.
- The Hoya's scored three quick points coming out of their timeout (22-18).
- Georgetown maintained its lead and won the set 25-20.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown took the third set 25-23 and won the match 3-0.
- Georgetown got out to a 4-1 lead.
- Providence came back and tied the set 7-7.
- The two teams remained tied to reach a score of 20-20.
- Georgetown went on a 4-1 run to take a 24-21 lead.
- The Hoyas take set three 25-23.
MATCH NOTES:
Shaliyah Rhoden recorded a team high 11 kills.
Kayla Grant tallied eight kills and seven blocks.
Miller McDonald recorded 15 digs.
Providence recorded 36 kills, 48 digs, eight blocks and two aces.
