Volleyball Defeated By UConn, 3-1

The Friars will return to action against Butler On Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by UConn, 3-1, in BIG EAST action on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 7-15 overall (0-11 BIG EAST), while UConn improved to 19-4 (7-4) BIG EAST.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-19 victory in the first set.
  • UConn got out to a quick 5-2 lead.
  • The Friars chipped away to bring the score to 7-6.
  • The Huskies went on 4-0 run to take an 11-6 lead.
  • Providence responded with a 7-1 run to take a 13-12 lead, forcing UConn to call a timeout.
  • The Friars extended their lead to 19-15.
  • Providence maintained its lead and won the set 25-19.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: UConn won the second set, 25-23.
  • Providence got out to a quick 6-1 lead, forcing UConn to take a timeout.
  • The Friars extended their lead to 10-2.
  • UConn went on an 8-3 run to narrow Providence's lead to 13-10.  
  • The Huskies tied the match, 15-15, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
  • The two teams were tied, 20-20, before UConn sealed the win with a 5-3 scoring advantage.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: UConn took the third set 25-21 and won the match 3-0.
  • UConn got out to a 5-2 lead.
  • The Huskies extended their lead to 11-5.
  • Providence chipped away to narrow UConn's lead to 14-10.
  • Providence called a timeout, trailing 18-13.
  • Providence got within three late (24-21). 
  • The Huskies held on to win the set, 25-21.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: UConn took the fourth set 25-22 and won the match 3-1.
  • The two teams played evenly to reach a 9-9 tie.
  • UConn went on a 3-0 run to take an 11-9 advantage, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
  • Providence fought back to take a 16-15 lead, forcing UConn to take a timeout.
  • The teams were tied 22-22 late in the set.
  • UConn went on a 3-0 rally to win the set 25-22.
 
MATCH NOTES:
Macy Taylor led the Friars' offense with 16 kills.
Jiji Lykins and Miller McDonald recorded a team-high 17 digs.
The Friars recorded 44 kills,79 digs, nine aces and seven blocks.
