PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Xavier, 3-0, in BIG EAST action on Sunday, Oct. 27 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Friars dropped to 7-14 overall (0-10 BIG EAST), while Xavier improved to 8-12 (6-4) BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier earned a 25-14 victory in the first set.
· Xavier got out to a quick 5-2 lead.
· Providence fought back to get within a point (5-6).
· The Musketeers went on a 9-3 rally to extend their lead (14-8).
· Xavier maintained its lead throughout the set and won 25-14.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier won the second set, 25-21.
· The two teams played evenly through the middle of the set to reach a 11-11 tie.
· Xavier went on a 4-1 run to take a 15-12 lead, forcing Providence to call a timeout.
· The Musketeers extended their lead to take a 21-16 advantage.
· Xavier won the set 25-21.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier took the third set 25-18 and won the match 3-0.
· The two teams went back-and-forth to reach a 7-7 tie.
· The Musketeers went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-7 lead, forcing Providence to take a timeout.
· Xavier extended its lead to 19-11.

Sophia Adkins recorded a kill to bring the score to 22-16.
· The Musketeers maintained their lead and won the set 25-18.
MATCH NOTES:
Kayla Grant led the Friars' offense with eight kills.
Jiji Lykins recorded a team-high nine digs.
Sophia Adkins tallied five kills, five digs and two aces.
The Friars recorded 33 kills, 30 digs, three blocks and four aces.
