PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to Old Dominion, 2-1, in overtime on Friday, Sept. 29 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars evened their record at 5-5 overall (0-3 BIG EAST), while ODU improved to 5-5 (1-2 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The majority of the opening quarter was played between the twenty-fives.
• Old Dominion recorded the lone shot of the frame, which sailed wide of the cage.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence outshot ODU 2-0 in the second quarter and registered the lone penalty corner of the game.
• The two teams went to halftime knotted in a scoreless draw (0-0).
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence took a 1-0 lead 5:39 into the quarter as Eleonore de Keyser recorded her first career goal. She cashed in off a direct shot during a penalty corner, assisted by
Bella DelNegro and
Lisa McNamara.
• It marked the only shot of the quarter, while each team registered one penalty corner in the frame.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars maintained their one-goal lead through much of the quarter.
• ODU pulled their goalkeeper at 53:39 in favor of an extra attacker.
• Moments later,
Bo Martina had a chance to put Providence ahead 2-0, but her shot at the doorstep of the cage was blocked by a Monarch defender.
• Providence was given a yellow card at 55:30, during which time the Monarchs gained a two-player advantage (due to extra ODU attacker).
• The Monarchs tied the game on a penalty corner as Sacha de Gier scored on a direct shot at 56:44. She was assisted on the play by Frederique Zandbergen and Danielle Husar.
• With a tie game, ODU's goalkeeper re-entered the game and the two teams went to overtime, tied 1-1.
OVERTIME:
• The Monarchs drew four penalty corners in the extra session and Marlon de Bruiijne scored the game-winning goal on ODU's fourth opportunity.
• She received a feed from Rina Tsioles and dribbled to the right side of the circle and fired a low shot into the lower left of the cage.
NOTES:
• For the game, Providence held an 8-6 edge in shots. Both teams recorded four shots on goal.
• Old Dominion held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners, seven of which came during the fourth quarter and overtime.

Asia Porter played 69:23 in the cage for Providence and made two saves.
• Suus Broers played 66:18 in the cage and recorded three saves for ODU.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 against BIG EAST foe Temple. The match will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Providence remains home for a non-conference match against Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
