Volleyball Defeats Merrimack In Three Sets

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Providence College volleyball defeated Merrimack in three sets (3-0) on Friday, September 15 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The Friars close out the weekend with a game on Saturday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. against Harvard.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars won set one, 25-15.
- The Friars got off to a quick 7-5 lead to start the set.
- Providence went on to score 12 of the next 16 points to take a 19-9 lead.
- The Friars closed out the set winning 25-15.
- Savannah Ivie (Frisco, Texas) had 11 digs in the first set for the Friars.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence wins set two, 25-15, for a 2-0 lead in the match.
- The Friars got off to a quick 7-0 lead in the second set forcing Merrimack to call a timeout.
- Providence extended their lead to 15-5 through the middle of the set.
- The Friars controlled their lead through the remainder of the set, winning 25-15.
- Jiji Lykins (Coral Springs, Fla.) had five service aces in the second set.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars took the third set, 25-19, to win the match.
- The Warriors got off to a 5-3 lead to start the third set.
- Providence went on an 8-2 run to take the 11-7 lead causing a Merrimack timeout.
- The Friars extended the lead to 16-10 in the middle of the set.
- Providence won the set, 25-19, to win the match 3-0.
- Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) recorded five kills in the third set.

MATCH NOTES:
- Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) and Rhoden each had 11 kills for the Friars.
