PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac, 2-1, on Friday, Sept. 15 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Bobcats scored two first-half goals and held on for the win to improve to 3-3 overall (1-0 BIG EAST). The Friars dropped to 3-3 overall (0-1 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead 9:37 into the game as Lucia Pompeo drove the left baseline and beat
Asia Porter for the goal, unassisted.
• Providence led in shots (6-4) and penalty corners (6-1) during the opening quarter.
2ND QUARTER:
• Quinnipiac took a 2-0 lead at 21:00 with an unassisted goal from Stella Tegtmeier. She beat several Friar defenders and carried the ball into the circle and found lower left side of the cage for the score.
• The Bobcats led in shots (5-1) and penalty corners (2-1) in the second quarter.
• Quinnipiac carried its 2-0 lead into halftime.
• After 30 minutes of action, the Friars held a 7-3 edge in corners, while Quinnipiac held a 9-7 advantage in shot attempts (6-3 SOG).
3RD QUARTER:
• Both teams were scoreless in the third quarter as Quinnipiac maintained its 2-0 lead.
• Providence registered two shots and two penalty corners in the quarter.
• Quinnipiac logged five shot attempts and six offensive corners in the third.
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence put the pressure on in the final 15 minutes of regulation, outshooting Quinnipiac, 4-0.
• The Friars cut the deficit to one (2-1) on a penalty stroke conversion by
Lisa McNamara.
• Quinnipiac recorded the lone offensive corners of the fourth quarter.
NOTES:
• The Friars' three-game win streak was halted this afternoon with the Quinnipiac victory. It also marks Providence's first loss at home on Lennon Family Field.
• McNamara leads the Friars this year with three goals, marking a single-season career high.
• Porter finished the day with eight saves for the Friars.
• Cristina Torres recorded seven saves for Quinnipiac.
• The Bobcats held a slim advantage in shots during the game (14-13) and penalty corners (10-9).

• Providence College returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 17 against non-conference foe Stonehill. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
