PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Stonehill, 5-0, on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 4-3 on the season, while Stonehill dropped to 0-7.
1ST QUARTER:
•
Bella DelNegro gave the Friars a 1-0 lead 11:09 into the match off a feed from
Florencia Talarico.
• Talarico's tallied her first collegiate point as she passed the ball into the circle from the left side to DelNegro, who settled the pass and fired a low shot into the left post. The goal marked DelNegro's second of the season.
• Providence outshot Stonehill 7-0 in the opening quarter and also held a 3-0 edge in offensive corners.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars tacked on two more goals to mount a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Bo Martina struck first at the 23:29 mark, unassisted, as she picked up a loose ball on the doorstep of the goal and found the back of the cage. It marked her second goal of the season.

Charlotte Lorden tallied her first career goal as a Friar just minutes later (29:02). Talarico picked up her second assist of the game as she created a turnover and fed the ball ahead to Lorden.
• The Friars held a 4-0 advantage in shots and 3-0 edge in penalty corners.
3RD QUARTER:
•
Mia Stilley scored her first career goal in the third quarter at the 32:54 mark. She deflected a feed from DelNegro into the cage from the right post.
• The Friars took a 4-0 lead into the final frame, as they outshot Stonehill 6-1 in the frame.
• PC also recorded five penalty corners, compared to Stonehill's one opportunity.
4TH QUARTER:
•
Ally DeCoste picked up an insurance goal for the Friars, her first of the season, at 57:37. She got behind the Skyhawk defense to redirect a feed from
Marley Mailloux over the goal line.
• Mailloux recorded her second assist of the season on the play.
• Providence held a 2-0 edge in shots and 1-0 advantage in penalty corners.
NOTES:
• For the game, Providence led in shots (19-1), shots on goal (13-1) and corners (12-1).

Asia Porter played 53:41 minutes in the cage to earn the win and made one save.
•
Zoe Onken saw her first collegiate action in goal as she relieved Porter with 6:19 remaining in regulation.
• It marks the second time this season that the Friars have scored five goals in a game.
• The Friars improve to 4-3 overall on the season, including a 4-1 mark at home on Lennon Family Field.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will return to action on Friday, Sept. 22 against No. 10 Liberty in a BIG EAST Conference match-up. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Lynchburg, Va. Providence returns home to Lennon Family Field to host Merrimack on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1:00 p.m.
