Field Hockey Set To Host Bryant And LIU At Lennon Family Field

Friars kick off six-game homestead this weekend with a pair of non-conference matches.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team kicks off a six-game home stand this weekend with a pair of non-conference games against Bryant and Long Island University. The Friars and Bulldogs will square off at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1. Providence will close the weekend with LIU at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3. Both matches will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: 
• Providence enters the weekend 0-2. The Friars opened the season with a 3-0 loss to No. 17 Boston College and followed with a 2-0 loss to Maine. Both games were played in Orono, Maine.
• Senior Eleonore de Keyser was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. De Keyser missed her first two seasons with an injury and returned in 2022 to start all 17 games as a central defender.
Ally DeCoste returns for her senior season after leading the team in scoring a year ago with 15 points on five goals and five assists. She scored 12 of her 15 points during BIG EAST Conference play (4g/4a).
Asia Porter played all 17 games in goal last season and registered a 2.59 goals against average and a 0.697 save percentage. She recorded two shut-out victories against Georgetown and Holy Cross.
• Providence finished the 2022 season with a 5-12 overall record and played nine of its 17 games on the road (2-7).
• This season, Providence will play 12 home games. The match-up against Bryant on Sept. 1 kicks off a six-game homestand and Providence will play 10 of its next 11 games at Lennon Family Field, overall.
• Providence will host Bryant in its home opener at Lennon Family Field on Sept. 1 at 3:00 p.m. 
• Providence was picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Lisa McNamara has returned for a fifth season as a graduate student, taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted to student-athletes because of the Covid-19 pandemic. She has played 59 games during her career, including 38 appearances in the starting line-up. McNamara has recorded 23 career points on five goals and 13 assists. She is 4-5 during her career in penalty-stroke opportunities.
• The Friars have added eight newcomers to the roster for the 2023 season.
• In May, the program announced its 2023 team captains: Emily Antunes, Marley Mailloux, Eleonore de Keyser and Lisa McNamara.
• Providence and Bryant last met on Aug. 27, 2021 in Providence, R.I. The Friars claimed a 4-0 victory.
 
SCOUTING BRYANT UNIVERSITY:
• Bryant enters Friday's match with a 2-0 record, having defeated Lindenwood, 3-1, and Saint Louis, 3-2. The match against Saint Louis was decided in a penalty shootout after two scoreless overtimes.
• Brittany Gouws and Zoe Bates lead the offense, having each scored two goals. Olivia Clarke also has tallied a goal this season.
• Bryant returned 93-percent of its scoring from a season ago.
• The Bulldogs feature six graduate students and three seasons.
• Gouws led Bryant in scoring during the 2022 campaign with 22 points.
• Lotte Guitink (16 points) and Clarke (15 points) also finished with double digits in the scoring column last season.
 
SCOUTING LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY:
• The Sharks enter the weekend with an 0-1 record and will face Brown on Friday, Sept. 1 before playing the Friars.
• LIU fell to UMass Lowell, 5-1, in its season opener. Saarah Olton scored the lone goal during a penalty corner, assisted by Emilce Paez.
• Mike Pallister enters his first season as head coach at LIU, having spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Syracuse.
• The Sharks finished the 2022 season with a 6-12 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Northeast Conference.
• Olton earned All-NEC First-Team honors, while Felicia King was honored on the Second Team.
• Olton finished the year with a team-best eight goals and added two assists for 18 points. King tallied 10 points on three goals and four assists.
• Providence and LIU last met on Sept. 12, 2021. The Friars claimed a 5-2 victory at Lennon Family Field.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will host a pair of games next weekend vs. New Hampshire and Brown. The Wildcats come to town on Friday, Sept. 8 for a 4:00 p.m. start. Providence and Brown will meet in a cross-city match-up on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at Lennon Family Field and will be streamed live on FloSports.
