PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Iona University, 2-0, in its 2023 season-opener on Thursday, Aug.17 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars struck for two goals in a span of 46 seconds in the first half to take control of the game.
"The effort was fantastic," Head Coach
Sam Lopes said. "We scored two great goals, earned a hard-fought shutout and both keepers played well. We created a lot of opportunities so hopefully those opportunities will lead to more goals."

Kyla Gallagher opened the scoring for the Friars to give them a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.
Kayla Briggs earned her first collegiate point with an assist.

Meg Hughes scored her first goal of the season a minute later to give the Friars a 2-0 lead. Briggs earned her second assist of the game.
-The Friars outshot the Gaels 17-2 in the first half, landing eight on goal.
