VILLANOVA, Pa.– The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed in the second day of the BIG EAST Championship in Villanova, Pa., at the Jumbo Elliott Track at Villanova University on Friday, May 12.
On the women's side,
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) finished third overall in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:55.10. Buckley's performance earned her an All-BIG EAST accolade.
In the 800-meter preliminaries,
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) ran a 2:05.65 to win her heat.
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) finished third in her heat with a personal record of 2:07.74. May and Atkinson's finishes automatically qualified them for the finals tomorrow.
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) won her heat in the 1,500-meter preliminaries with a time of 4:25.86.
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) placed fourth in her heat with a personal record of 4:27.47. Flockhart and O'Neill's performances automatically qualified them for tomorrow's finals.
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) qualified on time for the finals with a 4:29.52 finish.
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) automatically qualified for 400-meter hurdles finals tomorrow with a second-place finish in her heat in a time of 1:01.82.
Nicole Borowiec (Morristown, N.J.) finished the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries with a personal record of 14.40 to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Emme Conan (Skanteateles, N.Y.) ran a 27.07 in the 200-meter preliminaries and
Hawa Grear (Providence, R.I.) ran a 12:78 in the 100-meter preliminaries.
On the men's side,
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) placed sixth overall in the 5,000 meters in a time of 13:50.50. Following Rocha was
Sean Meehan (East Greenwich, R.I.) in 12
th (14:58.47) and
Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) in 15
th (15:17.30).
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) and
Tim Dolan (Cinnaminson, N.J.) ran a 1:50.15 and 1:52.47, respectively, in the 800-meter preliminaries. Lewin's time qualified for the finals tomorrow.
Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) ran the 400-meter preliminaries in a time of 49.18 and Will Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) ran a 56:87 in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Friars return tomorrow, May 13 for the final day of BIG EAST competition. Below is the schedule for tomorrow's events.
